How to use Google Maps app on your Digital Signage

Use the Google Maps content app to display locations, live traffic, bicycle routes and London, UK transit links.

Using Google Maps you can display locations, live traffic, London UK transit and bicycle routes on your digital signage with a range of customisation features.

Follow these steps to get your Google Map up and running.

Add Google Maps to a Playlist

First, you need to add the Google Map to a playlist (zone or global). Search the 'Widgets' tab and find the Google Maps icon, then select it.

Once selected, this will insert it into the playlist. Here you can see there are the various customisation settings for the Map:


The Map Settings options are as follows

Location types

  • Address - enter in an address (postcode, zip code, name i.e. 'Buckingham Palace') then hit 'Find Address'

    Confirmation of location found will look like this:

  • Latitude & Longitude - enter specific co-ordinates for the location

  • Device Location - publish to your device(s) and the map will display based on the device location set for the device(s) in embed.


Map Types

  • Roadmap - displays the default road map view. This is the default map type.

  • Satellite - displays Google Earth satellite images.

  • Hybrid - displays a mixture of normal and satellite views.

  • Terrain - displays a map based on terrain information.


Map Styles

Map Styles are only applicable to Roadmap and Terrain Map Types.

Map styles apply to the map itself. Live / dynamic layers added remain as standard. The style options are:

  • Default - the default map style and colours

  • Silver - silver colour tints, shades and tones

  • Night Mode - darker colour scheme, better used for dark environment

  • Retro - green / brown colour tints, shades and tones

Zoom

Zoom offers the ability to zoom in or out of the map. The default zoom value is 12.

  • To zoom out, lower the value (min 1)

  • To zoom in, increase the value (max 22)


Live Dynamic Layers

Layers are only applicable to Roadmap, Hybrid and Terrain Map Types.

Add live dynamic layers to your maps by toggling the options on or off.

  • Traffic - uses a traffic layer to show real-time traffic information

  • Transit - displays the public transit network of London, UK

  • Bicycle - displays bike paths, suggested bike routes, and other overlays specific to bicycle use


Add a map Pin

Add pins to Maps to highlight specific locations. You can add single or multiple map pin locations to any map.

Map pin icons

  • Default - red pin

  • Blue - blue pin

  • Green - green pin

  • Yellow - yellow pin

  • Custom - select from your media library an image to show


Add pins

Under the Pins section, select 'Add Pin'

  • Label - Give your pin a label (something descriptive to you)

  • Type -

    • Address

      • enter in an address (postcode, zip code, name i.e. 'Buckingham Palace') then hit 'Find Address'

    • Latitude & Longitude

      • enter specific co-ordinates for the location

    • Device Location

      • publish to your device(s) and the map will display based on the device location set for the device(s) in embed.

  • Delete - to delete a pin, use the delete icon


Once configured, you can now save and publish to your device(s).

Examples of Google Maps you can show on your Digital Signage

Example 1: Roadmap. Default Style. Zoom 16 with Traffic Layer.

Example 2: Satellite. Zoom 18.

Example 3: Hybrid. Zoom 16 with Traffic Layer.

Example 4: Terrain. Default Style. Zoom 18.
